Pattern recognition and context analysis – A module from the key subject area Smart Computing

Many functions of intelligent information systems are based on procedures of pattern recognition and context analysis: The determination of a fitness status via smartphone, natural language dialogues with a computer, the recognition of user wishes in an intelligent household or the prediction of stock prices.

This module offers an introduction into the basis procedures and terms of signal processing and pattern recognition.
The module covers the following contents:

  • Signals and linear systems; Impulse response, convolution, Fourier transform
  • Features and scale levels
  • Parametric classification procedures and parameter estimation
  • Instance based procedures and the curse of dimensionality
  • Combination of systems: stacking, boosting and bagging
  • Evaluation of classification systems and the No-free-lunch-theorem
