Master study course Computer Science
(Enrollment until summer term 2020)
Computer science is the science of automated, algorithmic information processing. During your studies, you acquire knowledge and skills for understanding, developing and analyzing such algorithmic, information processing systems. The study course includes all relevant parts of computer science, ranging from modern programming languages via database methods, networking and computer graphics to artificial intelligence, logic and predictability of mathematical principles.
The master study course can be started in winter or in summer term. It lasts 3 terms and is structured into compulsory, compulsory optional and elective modules.
In the compulsory part, 3 modules with a total scope of 42 credit points must be studied. 30 credit points are allocated to the final examination here that comprises of the final thesis (written master thesis) and the colloquium. Furthermore, the modules “Research topics in computer science” and “Latest developments in computer science” are compulsory. The modules “Research topics in computer science” and “Latest developments in computer science” are not graded but assessed with „passed“ or „not passed“. Thus, it is not included into the final mark.
In the compulsory optional field, modules with a total scope of 42 credit points must be attended, too. These modules are structured into the compulsory optional fields “Specialization”, “Deepened specialization”, “Overview” and “Supplement”.
In the elective part „Non-technical subject“, a module with a scope of 6 credit points must be studied which can be chosen from the faculty’s non-technical module offer or the entire module offer of the university. This module is not graded but assessed with “passed” or “not passed”.
90 credit points in total minimum are needed for passing the master examination. The master study course computer science is offered in German and English language. The module offer is designed in a way that – with a certain limitation of the options – the entire study course can be completely implemented either in German or in English language.
