Henrik H.:
Within the course of my bachelor studies of computer science at the University of Rostock, I did an internship at the company Gecko GmbH in Rostock. The company is specialized on software, hardware and IT services. I became aware of this practical training opportunity at Gecko via the annually implemented IT Career night.

During the practical training I worked in the department „Software development“ which works with software design, development, implementation and testing and comprises of three teams. I was involved into a medium-sized project during my practical training and was able to contribute from an early stage on. Which was particularly instructive for me as the theoretical knowledge acquired in the lectures became related to practical experiences now. This included, among others, the bachelor module “Databases I” as many demanding database inquiries were to be made in the project.

Furthermore, there was learning content the university does not offer or is not able to offer. Thus, I learned how company procedures are organized: daily working life, coordination between departments, regular team meetings and meetings with customers, working rules, procedures and the atmosphere in an IT company. Retrospectively, I consider the practical training as an important experience in my personal development.

Marie-Luise E.:
I took my decision to do a practical training in a company at an early stage, because I wanted to gain practical experiences and gain an insight into working life. Due to the offers provided by the student body of the faculty, such as the company evening, I quickly found a suitable company. Here, I was able to apply and consolidate what I learned in the lectures (a. o. software engineering and databases). Even more, I learned to work in a larger team and what applications can be practically implemented here. Within the further course of my studies, I was able to apply what I learned in my practical training in several study projects.
