Vortrag Prof. Jean Vanderdonckt (Computer Science at Université catholique de Louvain)

Incorporating pen-based gestures in a graphical user interface induces several questions: which gesture should represent which command? What is the most appropriate gesture set when all gestures should be recognized in one interface? Which recognition engine or algorithm to choose? How to transform gestures into commands and representations. This lecture provides some guidance in order to address these challenges and demonstrates how sketching, a particular form of freehand drawing, can be effectively delivered as a service in general and in collaborative user interface design on multiple computing platforms ranging from smartphone and tablets to wall screens and tabletop. The lectures reports on two real-world case studies: gestures for oriental food ordering and gestures for ordering Belgian beers.
